The Asylum Pop-Up Model

Hello, friends!!! Hope you have been staying cozy!
I'm sending out a post to announce a little shift in how we do things around here.
We're going to start leaning in to what appears to be an organic demand (might be too strong a word, but a better one eludes me) for folks to make use of the infrastructure and community that we have created together over the last few years in a different way.
When a band or artist reaches out and we can't accommodate them at The Asylum, I have been able to rely on some of you kind people to open up your homes for them. (thanks, Dmitry, Beth, and Phil!)
And a couple of you had your own idea on how to connect our set up to an event you were hosting so that it's a win/win! (very clever, Steven and Robin!)
We know how much musicians love a listening room gig. We hear it all the time that playing here for you is their favorite gig of the year.
And we know how much fun it is to host! Yes, it's some set up and clean up... but that magical time when the music starts up and everyone's mouths drop because they can't remember the last time they went to see a band and actually got to hear the REAL sound because it wasn't bouncing all over echoey spaces and people weren't yapping all over it....that moment feels incredible.
More folks should be hosting house shows! You don't need that much space.
So, here is how we are imagining our model going forward:
- We will not be hosting shows monthly anymore...BUT we will still host some shows! A monthly commitment has gotten to be too difficult sustain.
- When opportunities arise naturally that we can't accommodate, we'll do what we can to help connect musicians to people who want to host. We can also post about it, give advice, etc...however you want your show to run.
More folks should be hosting house shows, whether you use our help or not. You don't need that much space.
So stay on our membership to find out about future pop up shows!
Also, please do try to come to what might be our last show for awhile (Feb 22). Iris Marlowe and her band are coming up from Chicago and it's their debut MKE gig. It's going to be unique and wild, and we want to make sure they have a warm welcome!
